Our Community Garden is a celebration of environmental change with ponds, polytunnel, bee hives and raised beds to create our lunchtime soups and to support the diversity of wildlife.

A new orchard where an old orchard once grew. The apple trees, which had been grubbed out in the 1950s, were replaced in 2009 using the support of the Environmental Stewardship scheme.
-
Pigs are naturally forest animals so here they have trees to scratch, an ark for shelter, earth to root in and water to drink. The Environmental Stewardship scheme supports these organic farming methods at West Town.
-
The Teign Valley Railway ran through this cutting over fifty years ago. Now it is home to badgers, bats and huge ferns. The Environmental Stewardship scheme helps us support the wildlife with bat boxes and wood piles.
-
The fields shows a tapestry of landuse and wildlife. Grazing by beef cattle benefits species diversity, so our Environmental Stewardship agreement helps us optimise the amount of grazing and the planting of crops.
-
Fordland Brook is home to millions of tiny invertebrates vital to all the other animals higher up the food chain. Organic farming supported by Environmental Stewardship leads to healthier streams and more wildlife.
-
The henge is a living community sculpture promoting biodiversity through habitat creation for wildlife. And below the ground? A seam of clay to promote creativity!
-
Chillies Copse is home to much wildlife with old oaks, new ash, spring bluebells, and dormice nibbling autumn hazel nuts. Woodland management enhances this diversity.
-
Hedges mark out the boundaries of the farm. They are also pathways for wildlife. With support from Environmental Stewardship West Town maintains some of the hedgerows using traditional management techniques.
-
Grazing by beef cattle benefits species diversity so our species-rich pastures are valuable habitats for bees and other wildlife. The Environmental Stewardship scheme supports the maintenance of these pastures.

Orchards are fantastic places for wildlife as well as apples and an important part of Devon's farming heritage. The Environmental Stewardship scheme helps us create new orchards and habitats.
